<p class="ingress">The first new MET patent is directed at the expanded use of ammonia as the reagent by a simple and cost effective method of removing hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans from various ammonia sources. The gaseous hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans are stripped and collected, preventing the gases from release into the atmosphere. The invention delivers a process that enables users to avoid potentially expensive ammonia purification systems for the removal of hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans.</p>
<p class="ingress">Additionally, MET was granted a patent for a process that further enriches the AS FGD system, in which additional saleable by-products are generated from MET’s AS FGD system. From this new invention, multiple saleable fertilizers are produced as well as a valuable chloride solution or solid for various beneficial applications. “We are excited by both of these advancements that will assist a broader expansion of the AS FGD technology to the industrial and global markets,” said Amy Evans, MET’s Director of Technology.</p>

<p class="ingress">The recycling facility’s current process generates a waste solution that would have otherwise required waste handling and wastewater treatment to meet compliance mandates. The new MET process, of which the EAS is an integral component, will convert the current waste stream into multiple valuable by-products for the client.</p>
<p class="ingress">MET has completed laboratory testing of the solution from the recycling facility at its in-house Lebanon, Pennsylvania testing center. The field pilot system will be deployed to the recycling site to test under site-specific conditions.</p>
<p class="ingress">This development further demonstrates MET’s commitment to provide clients with alternatives to traditional waste disposal by creating valuable by-product streams that can be sold into markets such as fertilizer or other soil amendments.</p>

MET - Marsulex Environmental Technologies has announced their most recent dry flue gas desulfurization (FGD) project award in Korea. Contracted by AERIX of Korea through MET’s licensee Termokimik Corporation (TKC) of Italy, the project will entail the installation of a Spray Dry Absorber (SDA) system at the GS Pocheon CHP plant in Gyeonggi, South Korea.

<p class="ingress">MET &#8211; Marsulex Environmental Technologies has announced their most recent dry flue gas desulfurization (FGD) project award in Korea. Contracted by AERIX of Korea through MET’s licensee Termokimik Corporation (TKC) of Italy, the project will entail the installation of a Spray Dry Absorber (SDA) system at the GS Pocheon CHP plant in Gyeonggi, South Korea.</p>
<p class="ingress">GS Pocheon CHP is a new coal-fired power plant that injects limestone into the boiler to blend with the coal in order to capture a majority of the SO2 in the ash. New, stringent regulations in Korea now require Pocheon to reduce emissions lower than what is economically feasible with the limestone injection alone. The SDA system will act as a polishing scrubber and will provide 70% removal efficiency in addition to the SO2 removal already being achieved as a result of the limestone injection into the boiler. This will reduce the plant’s SO2 levels to the required limits needed to meet compliance.</p>
<p class="ingress">TKC has teamed with AERIX, the main contractor, headquartered in Korea, to provide Pocheon CHP with the technology solution enabling them to meet their compliance requirements. <p class="ingress">Marsulex Environmental Technologies Corporation (MET) and Sanders Lead Company Incorporated have finalized a contract for the supply of MET’s proprietary ammonium sulfate flue gas desulfurization (AS-FGD) system at their Troy, Alabama lead smelter and battery reclamation facility. MET’s scope includes engineering and equipment supply of the AS- FGD system, designed to remove SO2 from the gas stream as well as process an existing waste acid stream, producing a saleable agricultural crop nutrient product.</p>
<p class="ingress">Construction is targeted to commence in 2017 with commercial operation by the end of 2018. MET operated a successful pilot program at the Sanders facility, demonstrating the operation of the MET ammonium sulfate scrubbing technology under site-specific conditions. The pilot operation confirmed suitability of a full-scale unit at the Sanders facility by meeting three primary objectives shared by Sanders and MET:</p>

<li class="ingress">Exhibition of the required SO2 reduction necessary for Sanders compliance needs, verified by both on-site analysis and a third-party testing outfit contracted by Sanders</li>

<p>El sistema a base de Carbonato de Calcio/Yeso de MET utiliza una torre de aspersión abierta y eliminadores de niebla de alta velocidad. El SO<sub>2</sub> en el gas de combustión es absorbido por la suspensión reciclada, que contiene carbonato de calcio. Mediante la introducción de aire en el tanque de reacción del absorbedor, el sulfito de calcio obtenido de la absorción, es oxidado a sulfato de calcio (yeso). El yeso es deshidratado y puede usarse en aplicaciones de agricultura o en la fabricación de tableros de yeso y cemento. MET tiene más de 30 años y más de 95 proyectos diseñados de WFGD que utilizan carbonato de calcio.</p>

<p>En la depuración con sodio, una solución de hidróxido de sodio, carbonato de sodio o bicarbonato de sodio absorbe el SO2 del flue gas. El SO<sub>2</sub> reacciona para formar sulfito de sodio y bisulfito de sodio los cuales son disueltos en solución. Una parte de todos los sulfitos se oxida para formar sulfato de sodio. La depuración a base de sodio difiere de los sistemas a base de oxido de calcio o carbonato de calcio Y no se produce ningún desecho solido. Debido a la alta reactividad del sorbente alkali de sodio comparado a los sorbentes de oxido de calcio o carbonato de calcio, los sistemas se caracterizan por una relación liquido-gas (L/G) baja.</p>

<h4><strong>Beneficios de la WFGD con óxido de calcio</strong></h4>
<ul>
<li>El óxido de calcio tiene una capacidad de absorción de SO<sub>2</sub> más alta comparado al carbonato de calcio.</li>
<li>Los químicos fuertemente alcalinos resultan en una relación líquido-gas (L/G) baja y por lo tanto se requiere de un menor consumo de energía comparado a la depuración a base de carbonato de calcio.</li>
<li>La mayor reactividad del oxido de calcio requiere de un menor tiempo de retención, reduciendo así el tamaño y el costo del reactor</li>
<li>Menor relación L/G (menor gasto de energía) que la WFGD con carbonato de calcio</li>
<li>Utiliza un tamaño de tanque mas pequeño debido a que requiere de un menor tiempo de retención en el reactor</li>
<li>Los factores económicos específicos del sitio pueden favorecer la WFGD con óxido de calcio en lugar de carbonato de calcio.</li>
