MET – Marsulex Environmental Technologies has announced their most recent dry flue gas desulfurization (FGD) project award in Korea. Contracted by AERIX of Korea through MET’s licensee Termokimik Corporation (TKC) of Italy, the project will entail the installation of a Spray Dry Absorber (SDA) system at the GS Pocheon CHP plant in Gyeonggi, South Korea.

GS Pocheon CHP is a new coal-fired power plant that injects limestone into the boiler to blend with the coal in order to capture a majority of the SO2 in the ash. New, stringent regulations in Korea now require Pocheon to reduce emissions lower than what is economically feasible with the limestone injection alone. The SDA system will act as a polishing scrubber and will provide 70% removal efficiency in addition to the SO2 removal already being achieved as a result of the limestone injection into the boiler. This will reduce the plant’s SO2 levels to the required limits needed to meet compliance.

TKC has teamed with AERIX, the main contractor, headquartered in Korea, to provide Pocheon CHP with the technology solution enabling them to meet their compliance requirements. Engineering and procurement activities will be completed by first quarter of 2017, with delivery being completed within third quarter. Final completion of the project is slated to be finished by 2018.
